A thumbnail is judged at a few hundred pixels wide, next to a dozen others. This free YouTube thumbnail previewtool puts yours in a mock home feed, search results page and phone feed, in dark and light mode, beside real Minecraft thumbnails, so you can see whether the text still reads and whether it stands out. It also checks YouTube's size rules.
- Why preview a thumbnail before uploading?
- Thumbnails are seen small and next to competing videos. Text that reads fine full-size can disappear at feed size, and a busy image can blend into the thumbnails around it. Previewing in context shows that before viewers do.
- What size should a YouTube thumbnail be?
- 1280×720 pixels (16:9), at least 640 pixels wide, under 2 MB, as JPG, PNG or GIF. The tool checks all four.
- Is my thumbnail uploaded anywhere?
- No. The preview is drawn in your browser from the file on your device.
- Does it show Shorts?
- It shows the standard 16:9 placements: home, search and the mobile feed. Shorts use a vertical frame picked from the video itself.
- How do I fix a thumbnail that doesn't stand out?
- Open it in the MCRender Thumbnail Editor from this page. You can add bolder text, a Minecraft skin pose, mobs or effects, and export at 1280×720.
